ZULOAK

WHAT`S ZULOAK?

Zuloak it`s a rock music band created through the documentary –film with the same name. This group was created on first place for the documentary directed and produced by Fermin Muguruza.

Zuloak is a band formed by three women: Tania de Sousa, Ainhoa Unzueta and Uxue de la Fuente, even if there wasn´t a real band , as they created Zuloak just for the film , nowadays they are given concerts and playing as a revolutionary rock music band formed by women from the Basque Country.

The film Zuloak  is about how a group of women are creating a music band with provocative and rude lyrics playing just hard rock music. It was first presented in the San Sebastian film festival giving the band more repercussion.

Euskera and Media

In the Basque Country as we have our own language is essential for the expansion of the language and to cover the needs of the citizens, to have media in euskera. The impact that media in euskera has on the audience maybe is not much comparing with media in Spanish but it is certain that euskera has its place as a tool of communication.
In the case of television the single channel broadcast in euskera, ETB1, is not a source of big audience as it hasn’t got large variation of programs. Talking about radio stations there are a lot broadcast in euskera with a considerable audience even if doesn’t grow a lot. In press the newspaper Berria written in euskera is one of the main supporters of the language as it has a great amount of readers even in the net.
In conclusion, the only way of expanding euskera in media is promoting the different sources of communication we have in our language.
